A Good Name

"You got it from your father, it was all he had to give. So it's yours to use and cherish, for as long as you may live. If you lose the the watch he gave you, it can always be replaced. But a black mark on your name, son, can never be erased. It was clean the day you took it, and a worthy name to bare. When he got it from his father, there was no dishonor there. So make sure you guard it wisely, after all is said and done. You'll be glad the name is spotless, when you give it to your son."

This quote has significant value to my husband and I. My father-in-law gave a plaque to my husband with the quote on it right under our family name, Hale. It was given to him from his father who has now passed on. And now he has given it to my husband. Many thoughts pass through my mind when I read this quote. I think of the life (since I've known him) my husband has lived, prior to marriage and even today. My husband has never been perfect nor does he claim to be but he does love and fear God. He has never been overly concerned with what people thought of him but has always been concerned with what God thought of him. This ultimately affected the way he chose to live his life and the decisions he made. Which in turn, i believe, gave him a good name among people. He has a good name throughout the town as well as those he works with. People respect him for the stand he takes in living for God. For all of this, for the life he's lived and is now living, I am so thankful. I am reaping the benefits of a life lived in fear of the Lord. My husband has a wonderful testimony. There are many things he can say God has kept him from. And I'm sure i can say, he has not done it without help from God. We can refrain from many things when we have a relationship with God. "Religion will not keep you from sinning, but a relationship with God will." Prayer always makes the difference! Of that I am sure! Because of his relationship with God, I believe God has given us favor in many areas of our lives! It always works out for the good to them that love God! Remember to put God first and all else will fall into it's right place! I leave you with this scripture:
"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold." - Proverbs 22:1
